Mother’s Day – Let’s celebrate all moms!

Because all women, whatever their reality, deserve a wonderful Mother’s Day!

To mark this day, La rue des Femmes wishes to celebrate the maternal bond; the tie that is so strong and has such an impact on relational health. This is why we are asking you to open your hearts to women who are in a state of homelessness or at risk of becoming so. For this reason, and to celebrate Mother’s Day, please make a donation on this special occasion!

« Today is Mother’s Day, and at La rue des Femmes we celebrate all mothers: biological and adoptive, mothers-in-law and grandmothers, as well as all women who are mother figures – as some of our workers certainly are for the homeless women who visit La rue des Femmes.

Relational health: the strength of connections

Mother: hers is the first face we see. The first smile. And very often, the first word we say.
Mother: she gives us our first kiss. Our first hug.
Mother: two syllables that signify gentleness. Security. And love.
The bond with our mother is the first of all bonds.
An important bond. Defining.
This first relationship with our mother is the initial link in a long chain of human relationships. These links are part of our relational health: the more strongly interwoven they are, the better our relational health is.

Relational health is at the core of our overall health

The connections we make with the people around us are essential to our well-being.
It is these connections with significant others that ensure good relational health and good overall health.
At La rue des Femmes, our participants, deeply wounded and shattered by multiple traumas, receive the relational and specialized care they need to regain their relational health and thereby take back control of their lives.

Léonie Couture
Founding President, La rue des Femmes

On March 5, 2021, I had the immense privilege of accompanying K to the hospital for the birth of her daughter. I saw her hold her daughter with all the tenderness in the world. For the first time, I saw her radiant, overwhelmed with a mother’s love. And quite naturally, because of the bond of trust built up over time and the healing process, she put her daughter in my arms. A moment of purity, humility, great respect and security.

Ann-Gaël Whiteman, La rue des Femmes Coordinator

Twenty-three years ago, I came to La rue des Femmes for the first time. I was with my two-year-old daughter. It was the only place where I was accepted with her. At La rue des Femmes, I immediately felt love, respect and the possibility I could be myself.

My mother, love, children… All these things are the pillars of my life!” In fact, it was Ms. Diaz’s mother who introduced her to La rue des Femmes: “My mother has always given a great deal of her time to organizations that help women, like La rue des Femmes. I often did volunteer work with my mother. My vision is: Life is beautiful, but not easy. Let’s at least try to make it a bit easier.

Alexandra Diaz, La rue des Femmes ambassador

always said yes when people around her needed help. It is thanks to her that I have understood the importance of being there for others. By doing something or making a donation, I help La rue des Femmes, because the organization’s mission–healing women living in a state of homelessness–touches me deeply.

Being a mom is about passing on love to your children. It’s about giving them the ability to love and be loved, to respect and be respected. It’s about giving them the foundation for their balance and their fulfilment. This is my greatest mission as a mom! It requires openness, humility, resilience and, of course, a lot of love received! This is also, in a way, the mission of La rue des Femmes: to give love, respect and relational health back to all these broken women! And I wish that you, my big boys, will one day feel the desire to give back what you have received!

Thanks to Westmount Florist, a friend of La rue des Femmes, we were able to adorn our day centre with flowers, much to the delight of our participants and workers!

We want to thank this partner company for supporting this “Let’s Celebrate All Moms” campaign.

Thank you in advance for your generosity; thank you for Them! 😊
